Beware of Scam Hitting Therapists

Beware of Scam Hitting Therapists

We recently had a member nearly scammed by a party that claimed they were seeking marital therapy while visiting Connecticut for 6 weeks. The scammer requested booking 10 sessions and offered to send a 50% down payment to hold the appointments. The scammer contacted the therapist several times to see if the down payment had arrived. When the payment finally did arrive it was in the form of a bank check for twice the amount required. The scammer than asked that the therapist refund the overpayment. The therapist, who was suspicious by now, terminated the discussion and returned the bank check. We have had similar reports in the past with the “client” being a teen girl visiting Connecticut. The “bank check” was no doubt worthless but the therapist return of the “overpayment” would have been a good check that would leave the therapist losing funds. We caution our members to ask lots of questions and be very cautious if contacted by someone seeking temporary therapy while in Connecticut.
