CE Waiver Clarification

Under Governor Lamont’s executive order certain licensed social workers have had the continuing education requirement suspended. If your license period includes the date of March 10, 2020 you do not have to attain continuing education hours in the license period that includes March 10, 2020. You do have to get continuing education hours for any license year that begins April 1, 2020 and thereafter. Here is important additional information received today, on our request, from DPH. 1. The suspension is in effect for social workers with a license renewal date between March 10, 2020 and February 28, 2021.  2. “The CE suspension applies to licensees whose annual reporting period included March 10, 2020. For example, a licensee with an expiration date of September 30, 2020. Their annual CE reporting period is from 10/1/2019 – 9/30/2020. This reporting period included March 10, 2020 within it. The suspension applies in this case. Only a license renew year that includes March 10, 2020 have a waiver. If your license renew year starts April 1, 2020 or thereafter, you must get the 15 hours of continuing education to renew your license.3. If you have current CE hours that are in the waiver period they cannot be used in the future once the CE requirement is restarted for you.
