STATE AGENCY BUDGET HEARINGS

Proposed DMAS & DPH Budget Cuts are putting communities at Risk!

The Governor’s Budget is being heard by the Appropriations Committee. On Friday February 16th the DMHAS and DPH budget will be presented to the Appropriations Committee and a public hearing will be held. The Governor’s budget makes unacceptable cuts to social services & health care funding. Help us to OPPOSE further reductions to the critically important programs listed here.

Here is what we oppose in the DMHAS Budget:

  • Further reductions of $3 million to DMHAS Grants for Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services
  • Reductions of almost $2 million to Home & Community Based Services, Housing Supports & Services, and Discharge & Division Services
  • Cuts $577,871 from the CT Mental Health Center that will impact service users in Greater New Haven

Here is what we oppose in the DPH Budget:

  • Reduces School Based Health Centers funding by 5% and elimination of funding for one new center
  • Eliminates funding of $388,542 for Community Health Centers

What you can do:

Submit comments to the Appropriations Committee at apptestimony@cga.ct.gov . When doing so have the subject line read Testimony on DPH Budget and/or DMHAS Budget. If you have direct experience with these programs share that information and how cuts will impact on the populations served. And say you are a social worker.

Comments should be sent in by Thursday, February 15th so that they can be distributed to the Committee prior to the public hearing.

If you would like to testify at the hearing please contact the chapter office as to the process for signing up to testify. The Public Hearing starts at 4:30 PM on 2-16-18 in the Legislative Office Building and all are welcome to attend.

Contact NASW/CT staff at 860-212-4054 or info.naswct@socialworkers.org if you have questions.
