This presentation will address the specialized needs of First Responders, how their cultures (fire fighters, police officers, paramedics and dispatchers) inform treatment, and how to overcome obstacles to psychotherapy. Suicide rates for these populations are higher than line of duty deaths and they are traditionally resistant to seeking help or have not had appropriate help available. This workshop is designed to familiarize social workers with the culture that underlines this problem and will address clinical issues to raise awareness and to aid in developing appropriate supports for those who risk their lives on a daily basis. The role of the Fairfield County Trauma Response Team and the services it offers this population will also be covered.
This training is approved for 1.5 CECs by NASW/CT and is free and open to all disciplines. If CECs are desired, the cost is $10.00 for members, $25.00 for non-members.
