Date/Time:  Date(s) – March 5, 2019, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Location:  Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT

“Why Protect the Social Work Title?” is a workshop being offered at all NASW Regional Network Meetings in Connecticut. During this workshop, NASW/CT’s Executive Director, Stephen A. Wanczyk-Karp, LMSW, will cover everything you need to know about Social Work Title Protection!

We have entered an important season -the 2019 Legislative Session (January to June). NASW/CT introduced a bill into the state legislature for Social Work Title Protection; H.B. 5755: An Act Providing Title Protection To Individuals With A Degree In Social Work. Participants in this workshop will learn about the significance of Title Protection.  The training will (a) inform on how enactment will protect our clients from receiving sub-standard services; (b) educate on how the misuse and misrepresentation of the social work title impacts us all; (c) notify as to the number of ways protecting the title will benefit social workers and the profession itself; and (d) alert to NASW/CT advocacy efforts, regulatory recourse, and how you can support this initiative.

Presenter, Stephen A. Wanczyk-Karp, LMSW, earned his Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University with a concentration in community organization. Steve has a long history of involvement with NASW;  he was the Political Director for the New York State Chapter and he then became Executive Director of NASW/CT. Steve then ventured to the national office where he was the Director of Chapter Services and Continuing Education. After two years in DC Steve returned to NASW/CT as Executive Director where he has successfully led CT for a total of 27 years!
