The Office of Chief Public Defender in Connecticut is seeking resumes of social workers for possible retention, on a case-by-case basis, by our Assigned Counsel.
Social workers are needed to assist the Assigned Counsel team who are defending indigent clients in the areas of criminal matters and child welfare. Interested candidate’s resumes received will be provided to the Assigned Counsel for their consideration.
Example of duties include and are not limited to the following: Conducts in-person interviews and diagnostic assessments of clients to determine their psychological, social, medical and mental condition and their competence to assist in their own defense; obtains and analyzes comprehensive confidential psychological, medical and social histories of clients; interprets results of complex professional assessment instruments and utilizes the information to analyze client cases and treatment plans; provides crisis counseling for clients and their families; determines clients' needs for psychological, psychiatric and medical treatment and makes arrangements with health care and mental health professionals for such treatment; develops comprehensive treatment plans for clients, including strategies which provide an advanced level of constructive therapeutic alternatives to incarceration; facilitates clients' admission into treatment and rehabilitative programs; selects and contracts with mental health professionals for specialized testing of clients and for their testifying about those cases; may serve as expert witness in court proceedings; assists public defenders in presenting evidence in court; prepares and maintains client records and reports; serves as subject expert and consultant for complex cases.
In accordance with PA 7198, candidates are required to have a social work degree. Licensed Clinical Social Workers and PhD level social workers are preferred.All interested candidates must submit a letter of interest and a resume to:
