NASW/CT is pleased to sponsor a unique workshop on equine therapy presented by Ebony Horsewomen of Hartford.  For the past 35 years, Ebony Horsewomen, led by Patricia Kelly, President/CEO, has effected positive change in adults, children, families, and veterans using equine-assisted psychotherapy, equine-based programming, and therapeutic riding.  Powerful, nonjudgmental, and responsive living beings, horses can form healing bonds with humans that  lead to self realization and changes in behavior and feelings.  The combination of a horse, a licensed therapist, and a horse specialist can result in the achievement of rehabilitative goals for survivors of trauma, people struggling with addiction or mental health issues, and those with special needs.

This program features several speakers and experiential learning with the horses.  It serves to bring understanding and enrichment to mental health professionals for an effective treatment modality often overlooked.  This non-traditional approach has proved to be effective with at-risk adolescents and those who do not respond well to talk therapy.  Come join us to learn more about EAP (equine-assisted psychotherapy), the effects Equine Therapy has on the brain, and hear from those who have benefited from this therapy and how it can be used with urban youth, veterans, and those struggling with depression.
