NASW/CT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

CALLS AND EMAILS NEEDED NOW IN SUPPORT OF LOWER LICENSE FEES BILL

The Public Health Committee has voted in support of Bill 6837: An Act Concerning the License Renewal Fee and Schedule for Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Master Social Workers and the Examination Requirement for Licensure of Master Social Workers. Now the House and Senate need to pass it! We need you to contact them in support of this bill.

Bill 6837 Accomplishes the Following:

  • Lowers the license renewal cost from $195 to $100.
  • Makes the license renewal every 2 years.
  • Temporarily suspends the master exam for the LMSW while a more equitable exam is developed.

CT has the highest annualized licensure fees in the nation.

CT is one of only 6 states to renew social work licenses annually.

NASW/CT HAS WORKED FOR YEARS TO REDUCE FEES AND EXTEND LICENSURE RENEWAL. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE HAD A BILL INTRODUCED. NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT TO PASS THE BILL THROUGH THE CT LEGISLATURE.

Your state representative and senator need to vote on our bill. Tell them to vote YES on bill 6837. Remember to say you are a constituent and a social worker.

  1. Jacqueline Moffatt says

I am a social worker. It is my understanding that the other reason for suspension of the exam until 2026 is that it was racially biased so the African American population don’t pass and can’t get ahead on the workforce as LMSW and LCSW according to NASW. I am one and have taken exam several times. We need to be compensated for this racially distressing act

  2. I think that it is unfair that out of the 170 questions only 150 count towards passing or failing this exam. All 170 questions should count. It also should not be this difficult to obtain an LCSW. The state of CT should also implement what the state of Michigan is proposing, which is social workers only completing the clinical hours necessary to become licensed.
