NASW today released a statement on the mass shooting Sunday at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs in Texas. The statement repeats our call for sensible gun control laws, including curbs on assault-style weapons, and for mass shootings to be declared a public health emergency.

The NASW Texas Chapter offers its deepest condolences to the families of the victims in the shootings at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. We commend all first responders and law enforcement in their actions during this tragic event. We call upon our legislators at all levels to act to stem the tide of unprecedented gun violence occurring in our country.
