DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
Be a part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of Yale and DMHAS staff;
Lead and organize all-provider meetings;
Prepare material and present clinical data for case conferences with the DMHAS Medical Directors office if assigned;
Provide individual therapy 3-4 times per week to identified patients;
Assist Collaborate with nursing to assist with competition of Master Treatment Plans for identified patients;
Conduct group therapy and family sessions weekly for unit patients;
Participate in unit rounds to discuss client needs and progress in therapy; and
Assist with discharge planning in the absence of assigned social worker.

ABOUT THE FACILITY:
CMHC is an urban community mental health center with an exceptional 50-year tradition of serving individuals with serious mental illness and/or addiction. Founded in 1966, CMHC is a partnership between DHMAS and the Yale Department of Psychiatry. CMHC is nationally recognized for its scientific research into the causes and treatment of mental illness and addiction. The Abraham Ribicoff Research Facilities include multiple research programs in a variety of areas. CMHC is also a major training site for individuals pursuing careers in mental health fields including psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing and pastoral care.

The CMHC Inpatient Service makes admission decisions in consultation with Utilization Management staff from the DMHAS Office of the Commissioner. Residents of catchment areas 5, 6, 7, and 8, comprising the Greater New Haven area, are generally given priority for admission to CMHC’s beds. Many of the individuals who occupy the unit’s 20 beds are already in treatment at the Center or have a prior history of inpatient care at CMHC.

Psychiatric, social work, nursing and rehabilitation assessments guide the treatment, which is provided on the unit by a multi-disciplinary team, under the direction of an attending psychiatrist, and in collaboration with any providers who are involved in an individual’s outpatient care. Treatment involves pharmacotherapy, individual, group, family, occupational, rehabilitative and milieu therapy, as well as medical treatment and assistance with discharge planning, including housing, finances, social and vocational rehabilitation, and the arranging of ongoing medical and psychiatric treatment. Length of stay on the unit varies depending upon the time needed by each individual for thorough assessment, stabilization, and development of a comprehensive discharge plan.
